I continue to be fascinated by the Elon Musk compensation case.
And I’m not just talking about all of the threads the judge pulled to pull the compensation plan apart.
But specifically the public perception.
So many in the media, and those commenting on LinkedIn and X, are all citing how the judge took the vote from the board and stockholders.
Few have examined the case to see how the judge dissected the case.
I read all 201 pages and did a detailed analysis on YouTube ( https://youtube.com/live/b_iZXXSmd14 ).
But this isn’t about that.
What I find so fascinating is how early headlines control opinions even 2 days after the decision was handed down.
And it has a lesson for our businesses too.
What we get others thinking about our business is critical.
In cases like this the setting of talking points appears to be more important than what really happened.
A lot of interesting things happened with the Tesla board and stockholder vote. But few will ever know that because they are more worried about the headlines.
Perception may be more important than reality.
What’s your experience with this?
